Lancaster vol.2- Trip to Pennsylvania 2

 2009-03-02
As I told you in the previous article, Amish don't use any machines and vehicles, and I've heard that they don't use even insecticide for farming. So I guess farm products by them is very fresh and safe. Maryland has Amish markets, too. I would often go there to buy fresh vegetables and meats. There was opened only from Thursday to Saturday.

We can see many shops by Amish in Lancaster. Handmaid wooden products- wooden calendar, dolls, toys, were warmhearted. Of all others, quilt products was wonderful, as Karin-san said in the previous comment. I bought a pair of quilt cushions. I really love it.

Do you remember the shooting incident at the Amish school in Lancaster in 2006? 5 Amish girls were shot to death. That was really sad news. One of the victims who was the oldest girl, told the suspect to shot her first to protect others, although she was a still young girl. Who can do this in the fearful situation? In addition, The Amish people forgave the suspect. It made me consider what our minds should be like and how holy and noble people they were.

Lancaster - Trip to Pennsylvania 1

 2009-02-23
Today, I'll take you to Pennsylvania. First, we'll visit Lancaster. Lancaster is famous as a large Amish Country in the US.

Have you heard about "Amish"? Amish is also called "Pennsylvania Dutch", they are descended from German who settled in there in 17th and 18th century. They basically take subsistence farming and they don't use vehicles such kind of cars. Therefore they usually ride a buggy for transport like this. America has a lot of interesting places.

A description on the internet forum which makes me chuckle.

 2009-02-18
Ohh,,,, Today is my birthday. I don't hope getting old anymore......
By the way, I put here a description from one internet forum which makes me chuckle today, although it has nothing to connect with.

This description says,

I tried Herbal Essences shampoo. But it seemed that this shampoo didn't suit me, only to get many dandruff. However I didn't want to waste it, so I asked my farther if he tried it,

"Why don't you try it?"
"Can I try it really? Is it only for women, right?" He asked me so.

That night, after a while he took a bath, I heard his voice from the bathroom,

"Yes! Yes! Yeee----s!!"

Dad, what the hell are you doing? Are you already 46 years old, right?

We can see the same Herbal Essences shampoo TV commercial as America.
The father must have enjoyed this shampoo enough.

Get snow off!

 2009-02-16
As I told you, we shouldn't take snow easy. I really understood it through the previous experience, so I have to care about my car not to be buried. However, even though we clear the snow off, the snowplow would pile snow and make a wall of snow in front of my car, you know, once the snow wall get frozen, it would be difficult to remove. So we have to be careful of other things, too. We can't relax.

I kept guard over outside from my room in the 6 floor of this apartment, whether the snow which was removed from somewhere was piled around my car by someone outrageous person or the snowplow did it.

Don't be off your guard against everything!

2002.jpg

I was patrolling outside with a snow shovel every 1 hour. I was watching on my car from the park by my side sledding on the snow field. I was watching on my car throwing snow balls.

"Was it really patrol? Hey! you just wanted to play with snow right?" you thought so?
Yeah, That's right! I just wanted to play with snow in the winter wonder land.

Snowing

 2009-02-10
Feb 8
My home town in Japan actually has a snow, but it's only 2 or 3 days in a season, and it just sheets on the ground, so I had never had such a heavy snow in my life.

I would often have a heavy snow during living in Maryland. The apartment where I lived in was surrounded by trees, so the scenery covered with snow was really beautiful, it was as if I were in ski resort.

I suddenly remembered the lesson from my mom as follow.

"Don't take snow easy!"

She was born and grew up in the region where is famous for a great snowfall area in Japan. According to her, she had a heavy snow enough to a whole house was buried by it easily in the winter, and then blackout caused by heavy snow was usual thing.
She told me also to remove snow as often as possible, or we would be closed in the house. To be honest, I couldn't imagine how snow give us an effect at that time.

Mom... you were right.
I saw cars were buried by thick snow..... It was the first time to see such a sight in my life. Can you see these cars in this picture?

I try to write about memories of life in the U.S to practice English. Maybe you will find many mistakes on it, so please correct them!
