V-J Day

While I was net surfing, I found a ghost story related to WW2. Oh,, you would think that I never learn, wouldn't you?Talking of WW2, yesterday (Aug. 15th) was the anniversary of the end of the war. In the US, they call the day "V-J Day". (Victory over Japan Day, North American date is Aug. 14th) In China and Korea, they call the day as "Independence Day."
ネットしてたら第二次世界大戦に関連した怪談話を見つけた。あぁ、懲りん奴っちゃなと思ったでしょ。 第二次世界大戦と言えば、昨日は終戦記念日でしたね。アメリカでは"V-J Day"(Victory over Japan Day) 中国や韓国では独立記念日と呼ぶそうだ。
From the ghost story in the internet column.A Japanese priest visited Southeast Asia to pray for the people who were killed in WW2. One night, he heard footsteps by many people on the corridor, and then many people came into his room.
It was Japanese troops, of course they had already died. They solicited him chanting a prayer to the Buddha and they can return to Japan. A priest did it for them and saw they were purified. They seemed to be able to back to Japan.
Afterwards, an another visitor came to his room. It was an American soldier. He asked a priest to do same thing. After giving a prayer, an American soldier was purified, although the style was by Buddhism. It has a difference of religion, but a heart to mourn for the dead can be communicated. I believe the American soldier also could back to his country.
ネット上で見つけた怪談話より。とある日本人僧侶が戦没者を供養するために東南アジアを訪れた。
ある夜、たくさんの人からなる足音を聞いた。と、そこへ、大勢の日本兵が僧侶の部屋に入ってきたそうな。もちろんこの世の人達ではない。日本兵達は僧侶にお経を読むように懇願、そうすれば日本に帰れるんだと。僧侶がお経を読むと、日本兵達は成仏していったそうな。
そのあと、今度は別の訪問者が。今度はアメリカ兵だった。その彼も同じ事を僧侶に頼み、僧侶もそのようにした。アメリカ兵は仏教式ではあるけれども成仏していったそうな。宗教の違いはあれど、死者を悼む気持ちは伝わるんだなぁ。私はそのアメリカ兵も国に帰ることができたと信じている。
Regrettably, many of young Japanese are getting to unconcerned with WW2 nowadays. Some of them don't know even atomic bombs were dropped into Hiroshima and Nagasaki. I feel it's a very sad thing. Knowing it and handing down the story from generation to generation, is necessary for us as a Japanese, in order not to repeat a tragedy. Remember all people who were killed in the war, and pray for the souls of them.
May peace prevail on the Earth.
Ride on Bus

I would ride in bus, when I went out. "Ride on Bus" goes the rounds of Montgomery County, I like the bus number of "26" bound for Montgomery Mall (a name of the shopping mall). Ahh,,, I want to visit to Montgomery Mall.
While I was waiting for the bus, I met a variety of people.
Kind person, strange guy, funny person,,, sometimes I was asked for teaching Japanese, sometimes, thankfully,,,,, I was asked for a date.... by old person. I appreciate it, but no thanks....
Although I couldn't speak English well, I liked to talk to them.
East Jefferson Street towards Bethesda
One day, I met an old man during waiting for the bus. (he might come from India.) He was very friendly and talkative. We enjoyed talking each other.
After several minutes, the bus came.
But...........
The old man rode in the bus without paying.
Excuse me sir!! you haven't paid the fare yet! I thought.
But he took a seat quickly.
I was wondering if he just didn't notice or on purpose..., how I should say to him in English and politely in that case, ahhh,,,,, Should I give the old man good treatment?
I didn't know what to do. Anyway, I was mixed up about that.
The driver asked me if go together.
Foolishly, I said "Yes!" in spite of myself.
It goes without saying that I had to pay the fare for 2 people.
What was I doing..... I thought I should study English more harder.
Ride on Busという、モンゴメリーカウンティーを巡回するバスがある。私は２６番のモンゴメリーモール（ショッピングモールの名前）行きのバスが好きだ。
バスを待つ間、いろ〜んな人に会ったなあ。親切な人、変な人、面白い人、時に日本語を教えてくれと頼まれたり、お年寄りからデートに誘われたり。。。嬉しいけど... まぁ、ノーサンキュだな。上手く英語を話す事ができなかったけど、会話をするのは楽しかった。
ある日、一人のお年寄りに会った。（多分インド系。）
楽しくトークさせてもらったのはいいけど、バスが来たら、おじいさん、料金払わずにさっさと席についちゃったよ。。。。
こ、これは.....。
単に忘れているのか、故意か....? こういう時は英語で、かつ失礼がないように言うには何て言ったらいいんだ....? お年寄りを優遇するべきなのか......? （一言、「おっちゃん！忘れてるよっ!」て言えば済むんですけどね。。。）
とにかく頭が混乱してました。 とそこへ運転手さんから「一緒か？」と聞かれ、
あほなことに、思わずYESと言ってしまった。
２人分の料金を払わねばならなくなったのは言うまでもない。
もっと英語を勉強しなきゃなぁ。。と思いました。
I had never known how painful thing until I was done it.

Let me digress from main topic today....Yesterday..... I got my stomach checked up by endoscope. That's was painful....
I actually had been involved in a job to help patients who needed it at the hospital for a long time. I let them staying up with it saying, "Please don't move." or "Please relax!"
My result was nothing wrong, but.....
It was a painful for me.... and I understood how painful feeling patients have from bottom of my heart. My face with tears and runny nose must have been very ugly.
Anyway, please take care of your health!!
I appreciate for staff at the department of endoscopic.
思い切り本題から逸れます。
昨日、胃カメラ飲んできました。。。ああああぁ、大変でした。
長い事それに携わる仕事をしてきて、患者さん達に「動かないでくださいねー。」とか「力を抜いてくださいね。」とか言いながら我慢させていた。
問題は無かったけれども、いざ自分がされてみて、どんだけ大変なものかと言うのがよく分かりました。。。 元の職場で検査したので知り合いがいっぱい。。涙と鼻水にまみれ、ゲロゲロしながら受けた私の姿は見苦しかっただろうなぁ。。。
内視鏡室のみなさんお世話になりました。お手数おかけしました。
みなさん、とにかく体に気をつけてくださいね。

To pronounce English words correctly

To pronounce English wards correctly is pretty difficult for me.Especially, I'm not good at pronounce "R", "L", "V", so, to tell the truth, to pronounce "Rockville, Maryland" is pretty hard for me. I guess that many Japanese would feel it difficult.
This is a story I heard from my friend.
NIH(National Institutes of Health)
NIH is one of the US governmental agencies, therefore , the security check is strict. And it has own police department. If a visitor who is not an employee must have a security check- ID check, body check, car check and so on.
My friend's husband was taking pictures of a mantis at NIH.
NIH Police: Hey! What are you doing here?
Husband: I'm taking pictures of a bug
NIH Police: Bag? Where is the bag?
Husband: No, No. Bug, Bug!
NIH police: You hid the bag? Where did the bag go!!?
The police officer suspected him hiding a bag somewhere. On the other, my friend's husband made a mantis's gesture, but it made him more suspected despite his desperate play.
I also have been disappointed with my poor pronunciation. When a clerk at the fish counter brought a cat fish, although I ordered a cod fish.
Anyway..... to pronounce English wards correctly is pretty difficult.....
英単語を正しく発音するのはとても難しい。
友達のご主人がNIHでカマキリの写真を撮っていたら、NIH Police (政府機関のうちの一つであり、セキュリティーが厳しい。また、独自の警察機関がある。）に何をやっているんだ！？と呼び止めらたそう。Bugの写真を撮っているんだよ。と説明したけど、警官にはBugがBagに聞こえたらしく、Bagをどこにやった！怪しいヤツめ！みたいに誤解され、しばらくbugだbagだののやり取りで大変だったと聞いた事がある。で、カマキリの真似をしたら余計に怪しまれたそうです。
かく言う私も、鮮魚コーナーで、Cod fish（タラ）を頼んだのにCat fish（なまず）を持って来られた時にはヘコんだなぁ。
あぁ、難しい....。

No1, Squirrel

Squirrel..... we call it "Risu" in Japanese, so it's just okay for me to call it as "Risu" in English, too.
私の苦手発音ランキング、栄えある第一位は"Squirrel" （リス）。「すくいーれる」だとほとんど通じない。。。スペルも何だか長いし、もうね、Risu, リスでいいやんリスで！あと、語尾が"ld"で終わる単語も苦手。 まぁ、書く方も苦手ですが.... orz あぁ、がんばります。
