Well, well... 2008 will end soon. What was this year like for you?Oh, let me say thank you to you all reading this.
I won't back here until the beginning of the next year, so it will be late to reply.

Time goes so fast

Oh, Christmas is coming very soon! After wards, it's almost finish 2008! What was this year like for you? Time goes so fast! I really think it recently. We live now heading to the future, but I sometimes feel it a bit sad, because I feel like my American life is getting farther and farther.
But my American life won't fade away, no matter where I am, it will be shining, as long as I live now.
Well, let me put a movie I made. I'm driving on Rockville Pike from Grosvenor to Congressional Plaza.
もうすぐクリスマス。そのあと、もう今年も終わってしまいますね。
ぬわぁぁ.. 早いなあ。 今年はどんな感じでしたか？ 時が経つのはあっという間だなあ。本当、最近そう思います。 未来に向かって生きている訳だけど、時々私はそれが寂しくなる。なんだかアメリカがどんどん遠くなっていくような気がして。
でも、私のアメリカ生活は色褪せることはないでしょう。どこにいようと、それは輝き続けるでしょう。私が生きている限り。
さて、動画を作ったのでちょっと貼らせてください。今回はRockville Pike爆走編。
CALPICO tastes first love 2

I actually saw CALPICO was sold in Maryland, too. I can't remember where it was, but it might be at Japanese grocery, Maruich in Rockville or Daruma in Bethesda. As I told you before, I thought it honorable thing to drink CALPICO. But my husband has a different memory for CALPICO.
According to him,,,,
It was in his elementary school days, so he was 10 or 11 years old.
He was playing at his friend Maruyama-kun's home. All members were 3 boys, included him.When they had a snack time, Maruyama-kun's mom gave CALPICO to them, but my husband was surprised at the sight.
Because....
CALPICO was served by one big bowl with 3 straws.

We are usually served something to drink by each glass, but Maruyama family seemed to have a bit different custom.Talking of a big bowl, it should be used for noodle with soup like this picture on your right. It's apparently unsuitable for serving something to drink, I think... And this action that sharing a glass of juice with someone and suck it through a straw is for couple.
Imagine the scene that 3 boys are sucking up CALPICO from same big bowl with slurping sounds.
He must have felt sweet sweet feelings of first love between boys with Big Bowl of CALPICO.
This story was more than 30 years ago at one downtown in Tokyo.
The big bowl of CALPICO is actually made by only water. I don't like to waste precious CALPICO.
カルピスを飲む。私の中では高貴な事。
だが、旦那のカルピスに対する思い出は違う様だ。 彼が小学生だった頃のこと。友達の丸山くんの家で遊んでいた。メンバーは旦那を含め３人の男子。 おやつの時間に丸山くんのお母さんがカルピスをごちそうしてくれた。だが、旦那はその光景に驚いた。なぜなら......
1つのラーメンどんぶりでカルピスが出されていた。 ストロー３つ付き。
通常、飲み物ってそれぞれのコップで用意されるものだけど、丸山くんの家は違った。
どんぶりと言えば、ラーメンとかそういうものに使うものであって、あきらかにジュースをサーブするには不向きなんじゃないかと私は思うんだが...。それに、１つの飲み物をストローで一緒に飲む行為は恋人達がやるもんじゃないのかと。
想像してみてください。
３人の男子が、チューチューと同じどんぶりからカルピスをすする場面を。
旦那は、どんぶりカルピスで初恋のあま〜いあま〜い味を男子同士で経験したに違いない。
３０年以上昔、東京のとある下町にて。
あ、どんぶりの中はただの水です。どんぶりカルピスを再現してみようと思ったけどもったいなくて......。

ぐはぁ... 忙しい.... 体が二つ欲しい！Ahhhhhh,,,, I'm sorry for telling myself, but I have a lot of things to do for preparing new year, in every the end of the year. so busy.... Oh, would you help me to do some works? housecleaning and making New Year's cards and cooking anyway I have a lot of things to ask you. hehehe!!! ohhhh,,,,, I'm gonna crazy.
Oh, sorry I was a bit crazy. Let me collect myself.
CALPICO/カルピコ
CALPICO is a kind of lactic acid drink. It tastes sweet and sour. It is known to us Japanese as not CALPICO but CALPIS/ カルピス. The catchphrase of it is .....
Flavor of the First Love
If we Japanese express feeling of our first love using tastes, it would be expressed "sweet", or "bittersweet" just like a lemon or yogurt. Exactly, CALPICO's taste made of milk and sour reminds us of the first love.
I wonder what's "first love" expressed like in other country.
But CALPIS sounds like "Cow Piss" to native speakers of English, so it is sold as CALPICO in other country. Actually, this imagination is far far from the flavor of the first love. Incidentally, I regard CALPICO as a precious drink, because I was given such a gorgeous drink by my mom only when I caught a cold. My mom thought it was bad for children to drink juice easily, maybe I think many of moms must have had same way in old time. So I could hardly have a chance for drinking CALPICO in my childhood.
Yeah, Oh CALPIS, It's a luxury drink for me only I can get during sick.
I still regard it so.
カルピスの宣伝文句は初恋の味。
しかし、英語圏の人にとってカルピスは"Cow Piss" 、すなわち、牛のおしっこと聞こえるようだ。なので CALPICO/ カルピコという名前で売られている。確かに、牛のおしっこだと初恋の味にはかな〜〜り遠いですね。
ちなみにカルピスは私にとっては未だにゴージャスな飲み物として認識されている。なぜなら、ジュースなんて風邪を引いた時ぐらいしか飲ませてもらえなかったから。子供にいとも簡単にジュースを与えるのは良くないと思われていた。（まぁ、金銭的な理由もある。）昔は何処の家でもそうだったと思うんだけどなぁ。なので、未だにカルピスはご馳走。
カルピス、それは風邪を引いた時にだけ母上様から許される唯一の贅沢品。
と、未だにそう認識している。

HO HO HO! Christmas is coming soon!
Although Washington DC area is very very cold in this season, I loved that exhilarant atmosphere through Thanks Giving to Christmas. People look so happy by holiday season and it makes me happy,too.
もうすぐクリスマスですね。
ワシントンDC地域のこの時期はものすごく寒いけれど、私はサンクスギビングからクリスマスにかけてのあのウキウキした雰囲気が好きだったなぁ。みんな楽しそうで、それを見ると私も幸せになる。
In Washington DC, Christmas tree is illuminated in front of Capitol Hill every year.
It was so beautiful.
We can enjoy 2 Christmas trees. The one is in front of Capitol Hill, and the other one is at National Mall. The above is at National Mall. This Christmas tree is designed by the first lady. I took this picture in 2003, so it was designed by Laura Bush.
Next year it will be designed by the new first lady Michelle Obama.
ワシントンDCでは２つのクリスマスツリーを楽しむ事ができるんですよ。
一方はキャピトルヒル前（国会議事堂）、もう一方はナショナルモールで。 この上の写真はナショナルモールのもので、毎年これはファーストレディによってデザインされるそうです。これは２００３年に撮ったものなので、ローラ・ブッシュ夫人によるものです。
来年はミシェル・オバマ夫人によるものですね。
