93.1 WPOC, Baltimore's Country Station.

 2009-02-05
WPOC is a radio station in Baltimore. It broadcasts country music on FM broadcasting. (FM 93.1) I enjoyed listening to it as well as "Wash FM" during driving.

Today, let me tell about my favorite country music I got from WPOC.

Once I listened this "Travelin' Soldier" by Dixie Chicks, I was captivated by beautiful melody of acoustic guitar and violin soon. On top of that how wonderful harmony they make! I couldn't understand what they were singing in English, but I vaguely felt it was a bit sad song. I found the meaning of this song was really sad as i felt, after I had checked the lyrics on website. Sadly, they received a heavy bashing because they criticized former President Bush. I was sad to see that their music CD were stamped on by many people. But they got over it by they had won many categories at Grammy Awards in 2007.

Travelin' Soldier by Dixie Chicks It's a beautiful song, but sad.

Wash FM(これもワシントン地域のFM局。)
I'm Not Ready To Make Nice"でグラミー賞多部門を獲得し見事復活した。

By the way, I like this country music, too. It's "No shoes, No shirts, No problems" by Kenny Chesney. I like the relaxed tastes that country music but feel like in resort. My husband sometimes sings it as "No shoes, No pants, No problems".

No pants is no problem? Oh no, that's a big problem! , like the below.

What the hell are these guys doing in the early morning!?

Kenny Chesney

No shoes, No shirts, No pants, No service.

The biographies of heroes at Hanshin Tigers

 2008-05-27
A Hero came from America /

I was surprised to know that a hero from America who used to play baseball at Japan's professional baseball team named Hanshin Tigers, became a Democratic State senator from Oklahoma. If you are a baseball fan, you'll be able to imagine easily who he is.

The hero is Randy Bass. He came to Japan in 1983, after played at Twins, Expos, Padres, Rangers, and so on. In 1985, he became a triple crown winner- it was the first time for foreign players in the Central league. He led Tigers to the victory that year after 21 years of the last champion.

The spectacular scene of 3 consecutive home runs by Bass, Kakefu, Okada, is very famous for us and I still remember it, although I was a child at that time. It is no exaggeration to say that he was the greatest Foreign Player in Hanshin Tigers.

He is also famous as a founder of the urban legend "Curse of the Colonel".
I'll paste "Curse of the Colonel" again.

Blue crab and Soft-shell crab

 2008-04-25
I mentioned blue crab in the preceding article.
Yes, blue crab is famous as a specialty of Maryland. We can get them at the shop as well as fishing.

We usually steam them and eat cracking their claws by hummer.

Here are blue crabs I fished at Chesapeake Bay.
Blue crab

Soft-shell crab is the blue crab which has just casted its hard shell. They are so soft and limp that we can eat whole body-including claws, shells. Tempra, Deep-fried, we can cook them by any way.

Let's pig out!!!! Yummy!!!

But blue crabs are very aggressive! anyway very fierce. When I cooked them it was very hard to catch them in the kitchen. I fought back using metal tongs. They were just as monsters on the role playing game.
I got my finger pinched and bled many times. Anyway they are aggressive.

When I handled them, it was just as a duel.

Okay! I'll take you to Chesapeake Bay to go crab fishing next time!

Duel with blue crab!!

My treasures

 2008-01-28
I have a stuff to be disappointed after came back to Japan.
It is that I can't collect my favorite things.
The things which I'm collecting are State Quarters and souvenir spoons.

Well, I'll show you my collection.

State Quarters
Quarter, it's namely US 25 cent coin. If you have it, look at the pattern of it.
You can find it was designed after each states of America.

About State Quarters

Probably, It was easy to get them on the Internet, but this way was insipid for me.
I felt more excited to get them by hand as a change, and to confirm them which state's coin was a lot of fun. I could feel a kind of excitement like a gamble.
Sadly, I can no longer get them in this way in Japan.

I still want to collect them, so If you have the coins which I couldn't get, would you exchange them with mine? Please!!!

Souvenir spoon

The first spoon I obtained

Once I saw the collection of souvenir spoons my friend had, I was enthralled by them. I have been collecting it since that. Now, I have more than 50 spoons.

It makes me feel delight of collection as well as it brings me the memory of trip.
Presumably, I'm inclined to like a souvenir which has a local feature and something series.

Shot Glass

I like shot glass, too!

I'm glad to "meat" you!

 2008-01-15
Nice to "meat" you at Costco in Gaithersburg, MD
DSC00041.jpg I took this picture at COSTCO.
COSTCO is the largest membership warehouse club. Japan also has this store in Makuhari, Chiba.
I often went to the store to buy commodities and foods, however to buy many things at Costco was hard to consume for small number of family.

I had never seen such a many kinds of and plenty of beef meats were sold!
Besides, beef meats were less expensive than in Japan, so I enjoyed eating beef meat in the U.S. ; steak, sukiyaki, shabu-shabu. and so on.

However, there were no thin sliced meats at the American grocery store, as far as I know, so I had to make thin sliced of meats by myself using a slicer. It was a troublesome job!
About chicken thigh meat, there were no boneless meats. It was also a troublesome job to get rid of bone from it.
I felt like to be a butcher when I cut plenty of meats in the kitchen.

I love Costco━(゚∀゚)━!!
COSTCO...

I lived in Rockville, MD for 3 years and half.
Despite the fact I'm poor at English....
I try to write about memories of life in the U.S to practice English. Maybe you will find many mistakes on it, so please correct them!
